The Heart Behind My Why

So much of what we build in life is shaped by what we carry. Our experiences. Our losses. Our hopes. Our visions for the future. I believe that the spaces we build and choose for ourselves and our children matter. They shape how we see the world, how we see one another, and how our children come to understand who they are and what is possible for them. I wanted to take a moment to share the heart behind my desire to join this chapter—what has influenced my journey, what guides me as a mother, and what kind of community I hope to grow within over the years ahead.

My Intention

There are moments in life that shape who we become.

For me, one of those moments was losing both of my parents before I turned thirteen.

At an age when most children are still being held, guided, and protected, I was learning how to move through the world without the two people who were meant to anchor it. That loss did not harden me—it awakened me. It made me deeply aware of the power of presence, of family, of community, and of what it truly means to have a village.

Today, I am the mother of Zoey, three years old, and Cristian, just beginning his life’s journey. Every decision I make now is guided by one question:

What kind of world am I building for them to grow up in?

I am seeking membership in the Southwest Suburban Dallas Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. because I believe deeply in the power of family, community, and legacy—and I want my children to grow up rooted in all three.

My desire to join Jack and Jill comes from a place far deeper than involvement. It comes from a longing to root my children in a community that feels like extended family. A community where they are surrounded by love, standards, culture, accountability, and example. A place where Black families are not only present—but intentional. Where leadership is modeled. Where service is lived. Where excellence is expected. Where our children grow up knowing they are protected, celebrated, and never walking alone.

For me, Jack and Jill represents far more than an organization. It represents the kind of family I lost too early—and the kind of family I am determined to build for my children. A place where they are seen. Where they are affirmed. Where they grow up watching Black families lead, serve, celebrate culture, and pour into the next generation together. I desire for Zoey and Cristian to grow up not only participating in programs, but feeling anchored in something bigger than themselves—an organization with history, purpose, and heart.

I also come with a deep commitment to contribution.

I am a professional wedding and event planner and entrepreneur who has spent years designing meaningful experiences, managing complex projects, and bringing people together around moments that matter. I love creating spaces where people feel connected, inspired, and seen. I am equally passionate about building behind the scenes—creating structure, tools, and platforms that strengthen communities and help them thrive.

My hope is to pour those gifts into this chapter: supporting thoughtful programming, helping elevate chapter experiences, contributing to foundation initiatives, strengthening digital resources, and creating events and resources that families are proud to be part of—and children remember for a lifetime.

But even more than what I do, I bring who I am.

I am a mother who leads with intention.
A woman who believes deeply in service.
Someone who values tradition and vision at the same time.
Someone who does not take lightly the responsibility of raising Black children.

I want my children to grow up watching me serve. Watching me build. Watching me give my time, creativity, and leadership to something that stands for more than any one of us. I want them to see firsthand what it means to belong to a community—and to be responsible for it.

It would be profoundly meaningful to grow within this chapter over the years. To build relationships, honor traditions, learn from those who came before me, and one day help shape what comes next. Not simply to participate—but to invest. Not just to join—but to belong.

My intention is simple, but profound:
to build a village around my children,
to pour into the lives of Black families,
and to contribute my whole heart, my whole self, and my full skillset to a chapter that is shaping the next generation.

And to be part of an organization where my children will always know:

They come from love.
They come from legacy.
They come from community.

My hope is to grow alongside this chapter—not simply to attend, but to belong. To build relationships, honor traditions, serve with intention, and one day help shape what comes next. To pour my heart, my skills, and my leadership into a community that is shaping the next generation of confident, culturally rooted, and purpose-driven children. And to give my own children something I believe every child deserves: a village.
